Your Wedding Day Makeup Timeline: What to Expect
Updated 17 July 2026
A relaxed morning makes for better photos and a calmer bride. The key is a realistic schedule with a little slack built in, so nothing is rushed. Here's how a typical wedding-day beauty timeline comes together.
Before the day
Your mehndi is best done a day or two ahead so the stain has time to darken and set — not on the morning itself. Any brow shaping is also best done a few days before, so there's no redness on the day. Your makeup trial should already have settled the look, so the morning is about execution, not decisions.
How long does bridal makeup take?
Full bridal makeup usually takes around 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the look and any lashes or detailing. It's wise to add buffer time on top for outfit changes, jewellery and the inevitable moments where you need to stop for a photo or a cup of tea.
The order of the morning
- 1.Skin prep — cleanse, moisturise and prime so makeup sits well and lasts.
- 2.Brows — shaped and defined to frame the face before eye makeup.
- 3.Base — foundation and concealer built for longevity and photography.
- 4.Eyes and detailing — the most time-intensive stage.
- 5.Finishing — setting, lips and lashes, then a final check in daylight.
Timing it around photography
Aim to be finished before your photographer is due, with a short window to spare. That way your first photos catch you camera-ready and composed, rather than mid-touch-up. If several people are getting ready, agree the order in advance and put the bride last so the look is freshest for the ceremony.
