Brows are the part of bridal beauty people think about last, and the part that quietly does the most work in photographs. They frame the face and give makeup a clean structure to sit against. The good news is that getting them right is mostly a question of timing.

How far ahead should brows be done?

A few days before the wedding is the sweet spot. That is close enough that the shape is still crisp on the day, but far enough ahead that any redness has completely settled and the brows have had a chance to look natural rather than freshly done. Booking brows for the wedding morning itself is the one thing we would avoid.

If you have not had them tinted before

Do it well in advance, not for the first time in the run-up to the wedding. That way you can see how the colour suits you, how it softens over the following weeks, and whether you would prefer it slightly lighter or deeper on the day. The same logic applies to any brow treatment you have not tried before.

Fitting brows around everything else

• Makeup trial: four to eight weeks before, so the look is settled.
• Brows: a few days before the wedding, once any trial decisions are made.
• Mehndi: one to three days before, so the stain has time to darken.
• Wedding morning: makeup only, with everything else already taken care of.

Why it matters in photographs

Wedding photography is unforgiving about structure.
